Preparing for Walking My Camino

The Road to My Camino Starts Here

Preparing for My Camino

Following the Journey Before the Journey

A lot of people think the Camino de Santiago starts with that first step on a quiet trail in Spain or Portugal. For me, though, the journey begins much earlier, sparked by curiosity. Even picking a starting point already feels like an adventure.

The excitement of planning and looking ahead comes long before I put on a backpack or get my pilgrim credential. In a way, I am already starting my Camino, just in a different way.

I haven’t picked my route yet, but I hope to walk about 150 kilometers and find one that matches my pace and interests.

Every Camino has its own scenery, stories, customs, and pace, so I want to choose thoughtfully. I’m looking for a route that fits the distance I want to walk and the experience I’m hoping for.

Getting ready for the Camino is more than picking out shoes or packing a bag. It’s about building confidence, getting stronger, learning from experienced pilgrims, and discovering the stories and traditions that have inspired travelers for centuries.

Every article I read, conversation I have, and training walk I take adds something new to my experience. This site will be my preparation journal. Over the next two years, I’ll share my choices, questions, successes, and mistakes as I get ready for this adventure.

We’ll look at equipment, routes, training, food, technology, places to stay, and all the practical details that help turn a dream into reality. For me, the Camino isn’t a religious pilgrimage but a personal journey.

It marks a new chapter in my life—a chance to test my limits, slow down, meet people from around the world, and see what happens when I measure life by each step instead of by the calendar.

Whether you’re planning your first Camino, getting ready for another walk, or just curious about what draws people to these old paths, I invite you to join me on this journey.

I haven’t taken my first step yet, but my journey has already started. I’m excited to share it with you.
